What is a Liwoto Coliving Space?

Are you a remote worker or digital nomad who likes to travel to different locations and live with other like-minded people? Then coliving at Liwoto is for you!

You might have heard the word “coliving” a few times in various contexts, and wondered: is it for me? Well, first of all you need to make sure you understand what coliving exactly means!

“Coliving at Liwoto means joining a network of intentional and familiar coliving spaces for remote workers and digital nomads.”

Sounds like something you would like to try? Then keep reading to find out more!

(Background) Digital Nomads have been travelling the world and working remotely for over 20 years. Times back then were challenging, with very few resources available, but things have changed in recent years.

During the last decade, we’ve seen an increase in the number of people being able to work remotely. After the pandemic, this number has grown exponentially, and today it’s realistic to imagine that many employees won’t be going back to their offices.

Having the freedom to work from anywhere opens up many possibilities. Travelling is one of them.

But with so many new possibilities, where should you start? Where should you go and where should you stay to be able to both meet other people and also stay productive in your work?

Here’s where we at Liwoto can help.

(Needs) For many remote workers, hotels and/or Airbnbs have been one of the best (if not the only) options so far. However, there are two things about these options that are not very remote work-friendly:

  • wifi is not always reliable
  • meeting other people is hard when you live by yourself in a new place.

Hostels are another potential option but, while they’re usually more social, they lack spaces to be productive. Yes, you are probably going to have a lot of fun in hostels, but it’s unlikely you will meet other professionals who can help you boost your productivity and to whom you could connect in a more meaningful way.

That’s why coliving spaces for remote workers were born. These spaces always combine a coliving environment with accommodation and lots of communal spaces, and a coworking area with high speed wifi and a comfortable office environment.

Most importantly, they are spaces where a community of like-minded people can meet and build meaningful relationships, while being productive and enjoying life.

(Challenge) At Liwoto, we’ve been running some of our spaces for more than 6 years already. After hosting altogether more than 1500 guests, we have realised that finding the right coliving space for people that work and travel it’s often quite tricky.

At the moment, there are different types of coliving spaces around. Some of them are for long stays (+10 months) and those are mainly located in big cities. Others are just big apartment complexes using the word ‘coliving’ merely as a marketing purpose, when in reality they are not focused on building a community.

Coliving spaces in our Liwoto network are only focused on remote workers and digital nomads staying for 3-4 weeks on average.

We all provide:

  • a comfortable living space
  • a productive working environment
  • a community of like-minded people

In fact, that’s where our name Liwoto comes from: LIve+WOrk+TOgether.

(Why Us) At Liwoto, you will find a network of community-oriented coliving spaces for remote workers. We are all committed to creating a familiar environment that would make everyone immediately feel at home, and we all host different types of events for our guests.

Our Liwoto spaces have been selected to fit some specific criteria we find relevant exclusively for people that need to both work and travel, not just regular tourists.

Each coliving space in the Liwoto network needs to have:

  • An intentional community
  • A comfortable coworking space
  • A team of onsite Community Managers
  • A limited capacity (15 to 25 guests max) to allow for deeper connections
  • A shared kitchen and lots of common areas for the community to mingle
  • Living and working both happening under the same roof

(Stay) What can you expect when staying in one of our coliving spaces?

We live in a world that needs more spaces where individuals can build meaningful relationships. Places that allow us to connect with other humans and share experiences with them. That is why Liwoto spaces are mainly focused on providing a safe environment where people can relax, be productive and feel at home.

In any of our coliving spaces, meaningful conversations happen while cooking in the kitchen, sharing a glass of wine, chatting around a bonfire, hiking in the outdoors and much more. Guests stay an average of 3 to 4 weeks, often ending up extending for longer.

Living and working under one roof with other like-minded people for that amount of time can become a life-changing experience!

In the end, the best way to find out what coliving really means to you is by trying it out. And indeed, we will be happy to host you in any of our spaces so you can experience coliving for yourself :)
